MTV Video Music Awards Announced
Fatboy Slim's "Weapon of Choice" video, starring Christopher Walken has received a phenomenal nine nominations in the MTV Video Music Awards.
The Spike Jonze-directed video, which featured the Hollywood star tap dancing around a hotel lobby, was nominated for Video Of The Year, Breakthrough Video, Best Dance Video, Best Direction, Best Choreography, Best Special Effects, Best Art Direction, Best Editing and Best Cinematography. It follows on from his triumph two years ago with "Praise You," which won him three gongs for the video, which was also directed by Jonze.
"Weapon Of Choice" - which will do battle for the top honour of Video Of The Year against U2's "Beautiful Day," Eminem's "Stan," Missy Elliott's "Get Ur Freak On" and Mya, Pink, Christina Aguilera and Li'l Kim's "Lady Marmalade" - has scored the highest number of nominations at this year's awards, which take place on September 6, with U2 and Alicia Keys performing live at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York.
Mya, Pink, Christina Aguilera and Li'l Kim's "Lady Marmalade" picked up six nominations, as did *N SYNC's "Pop," and Missy Elliott's "Get Ur Freak On."
Garnering five nominations each were U2 - four for "Elevation" and one for "Beautiful Day" - Eminem, for "Stan" and Destiny's Child, who got three nominations for "Survivor" and two for "Independent Women (Pt 1)."
Among the other acts in the running for various awards are Janet Jackson, Robbie Williams, Madonna, Backstreet Boys, REM and Coldplay.
