Aaliyah's Parents Sue Virgin
The parents of R&B star Aaliyah are suing Virgin Records for negligence and recklessness over the plane crash that killed her last year.
The 22-year-old entertainer died when the chartered plane carrying her crashed during take-off in the Bahamas last August, killing everyone onboard.
The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by Aaliyah's parents Diane and Michael Haughton, names Virgin, several video production companies and Blackhawk International Airways - the company operating the plane that crashed - as defendants.
Legal action was brought after investigators discovered the twin-engine Cessna 402-B aircraft was at least 315 kilograms (695 pounds) overweight. The Haughtons allege in the suit, that the crash was caused by "a dangerous and unsafe configuration" of the plane.
The families of two other crash victims have filed similar lawsuits.
