Ricky Martin Supports Charity
Singer Ricky Martin showed his crusading side when he rescued three little girls from a life of poverty during a trip to Calcutta.
The Latin star, who flew into the Indian city on his private jet, insisted on visiting Calcutta as a promise to Nacho Cano, the founder of the Sabera Foundation.
Kind-hearted Ricky made the visit whilst recording a video for a song to feature on a CD being compiled by Melanie Griffith in aid of the charity.
He was met at the airport by Nacho and Spanish supermodel Esther Canadas and taken to see the three girls, who were living in abject poverty with their mother.
After persuading their mum that the girls would be better off in the Sabera Foundation, which looks after underprivileged children in India, Ricky accompanied the girls back to the foundation's shelter.
Ricky says, "On June 5 three beautiful little girls came into my life: Zoida, Ashira and Anura. What I feel after spending four days with them, and indeed all the girls at the Foundation, is beyond words."
He describes his time there as being "the most beautiful thing I've ever experienced," and adds, "It's great to know that from now on they'll have a secure home, where they can eat sleep and study."
Other artists contributing to the CD include Sting, Sir Elton John, Penelope Cruz and Antonio Bandaras.
