Ricky Martin Honored

Ricky Martin is among the five winners of the 16th annual Hispanic Heritage Awards. The awards will be presented at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on September 20th. This award not only recognizes Ricky's hard work and commitment to excellence, it also acknowledges his dedication and reach to the latin community.

Previous honorees are Anthony Quinn, Gloria Estefan, Oscar De La Renta and Martin Sheen to name a few.

Along with Ricky Martin, other recipients this year include Mexican-American Olympic speed skater Derek Parra, Mexican - American theologian Rev. Virgilio Elizondo, Dominican Republic - born novelist Julia Alvarez and People en Español founder/publisher Liza Quiroz, who is of Puerto Rican and Mexican descent.

NBC affiliates will broadcast the hour-long ceremony on October 12th.
