India.Arie Tells Artists to Speak Out

Soul singer India.Arie is hoping that war will change the way people think - even though she doesn't want there to be any fighting.

Speaking during a interview with AP Radio, the Acoustic Soul performer says, "I don't want to see war happen. But, sometimes, things have to happen in the world to change people's consciousness.

"While it may not immediately have desirable effects, I hope it opens a lot of people's eyes."

And she sent out a plea to her colleagues in the music industry to wake up and start speaking out on social issues, rather than just focusing on having fun and getting rich.

She adds, "It doesn't have to be real heavy, but say something through your music. This is your platform, your vehicle. I challenge all of my peers to do more."
