Britney's 'husband' Is A Church-going Hunk

The old friend Britney Spears married in a drunken Las Vegas ceremony this weekend has been described as a "nice, popular" church-goer by pals back home.

Spears and Jason Allen Alexander, who both grew up in the small town of Kentwood, Louisiana, have begun proceedings to annul their slapdash wedding, but interest in the 22-year-old football player has already been sparked, with friends speaking up about his history.

Alexander, whose attempt to make it in pro football floundered recently, is generally described as a nice guy.

Melissa Cornette, who was his date for their high school homecoming ball, says, "He's very nice. He was popular. Everybody knew him. He was really, really good at football."

She adds that Alexander was named 'Beau' of his class, a title that, along with 'Beauty', is handed out to the best-looking students.

As recently as November Alexander was involved with childhood sweetheart Corie Miller, whose only response to press requests for information last night was, "I'm sorry, I'm not interested."

Another former schoolmate has spoken out in favor of Alexander's good character, saying, "He used to go to church with Corie."
