Billboard Music Awards
Hip-hop star 50 Cent and punk rockers Green Day dominated the 2005 Billboard Music Awards held in Las Vegas, Nevada, yesterday - they both picked up six awards.
The Candy Shop rapper, who was nominated in eight categories, picked up the prestigious Artist Of The Year award and his LP The Massacre was named Album Of The Year.
Basket Case rockers Green Day were named Billboard 200 Album Group Of The Year, Pop Group Of The Year and Rock Artist Of The Year, while their smash hit Boulevard Of Broken Dreams won the Rock Song Of The Year Award.
R+b star Mariah Carey converted five of her seven nominations into awards - she was crowned Female Billboard 200 Album Artist of the Year and her single We Belong Together scooped the Hot 100 Song of the Year and Hot 100 Airplay of the Year awards.
Fresh from performing show opening song Holiday, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong presented the Century Award, US magazine Billboard's highest honour, to Tom Petty.
Armstrong said, "I love music, I love rock and roll, therefore I love Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers. If you're going to come up (on stage) and thank God, thank God for Tom Petty."
Petty accepted the honour saying, "Let me remind you that this ain't the end. I can still kick some a**!"
