Flea Turned To Rock Despite Father's Advice

Bassist Michael 'Flea' Balzary joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers despite being raised to believe rock was the stupidest form of music.

Flea grew up loving sophisticated jazz because of his stepfather Walter Urban Jr, but soon rebelled against Urban's narrow-minded views.

The 43-year-old says, "I got my love of jazz from my stepfather, who was a jazz musician. I was raised to think that rock music was for ignorant people who didn't think for themselves."
