Nick Cannon's Got "Talent"!

Nick Cannon joins "America's Got Talent" as the new host of the fourth season of NBC's summer reality competition series. A film star, comedian, musician, writer and executive producer of his own hit TV shows, the 28-year-old San Diego, Calif. native is a successful multi-faceted entertainer and has tied the knot with superstar singer Mariah Carey! Cited by People magazine as one of the "Top Ten Most Successful Young People in Hollywood", Nick will be bringing his own personal style to the popular show.

Nick Cannon spoke to us about the changes in the new season of "America's Got Talent," as well as what the first year of his marriage to Mariah has been like.

TeenTelevision: What do you bring to the show, as a host?

Nick: I would say I have a unique background, in the sense that I've done stand-up comedy for over 15 years. I've been in entertainment, pretty much all my life. In the last few years, I've even had the opportunity to be on the production side, in the more corporate world of entertainment, so I bring a different perspective of all the different angles. But then, at the same time, I was still that kid who was 8 years old, at talent shows.

TeenTelevision: So, then you can really relate to the contestants on the show?

Nick: When that young man or woman or this family walks up, I know exactly what they're going through. I know everything that they're feeling. I know the butterflies in the stomach. I know the tingling on the back of the neck, before they step out on that stage. I know the excitement of this possibly being the biggest crowd that they've ever performed in front of. And, at the same time, there's that fear of making sure you're going to hit all the right notes, performing in front of celebrities. I come with the empathy of saying, "Just go out there and have a good time. Do your best." I've been out on a stage and bombed in front of thousands, and I've had a standing ovation. I know exactly what that feels like, so to be able to share that with each and every person that steps on that stage is something quite different.

TeenTelevision: How do you follow in the footsteps of classic hosts, like Regis Philbin and Jerry Springer?

Nick: Those are some big footsteps to follow. I can't really follow in those. I admire those guys from afar, but my thing is about bringing that young swagger, and that unpredictable, you never know what's going to happen, type of personality. I'm bringing the ADD generation to this show.

TeenTelevision: What prompted the decision to move back into TV?

Nick: I've been producing television for the last five or six years, and I think I'm just broadening. I still have two films that are coming out this year, and I still have an album that's coming out later this year. But, I just feel like, because I'm the chairman of Teen Nick now, I'm connecting with that young audience, in a different way. I have a syndicated radio show that I'm doing with Clear Channel, so this is the place in my career where I also get to connect directly with the people. A lot of times, when you do things like acting or music, they get to appreciate your art form, but they don't really get a chance to see who you are. When you're a good host, you get the opportunity to share who you are and people get to say, "Wow, I really like him," and not "I like that song," or, "I like that movie."

TeenTelevision: What's going to be new and different about this season of the show?

Nick: I'm one of the things that's new about this season. I love to have a good time, and I feel like this show is all about a good time, so it's a perfect match. I've been a fan of the show, so my perspective is truly as a fan. I'm rooting for everybody who is on the show, all the contestants. I give the type of commentary that people at home would say, getting emotional when it's time to get emotional and really just enjoying the entire experience and the journey that "America's Got Talent" actually is.

TeenTelevision: Is the production of the show changing at all?

Nick: Yes. We're at Madison Square Garden and Staples Center. It's big. When you think about American television, sometimes there's that perception that we've seen everything and we've done everything. Outside of America, a lot of times, people tend to appreciate things a little bit more, when it comes to the everyday stories. We want to embrace that idea. The rest of the world does matter. We want to show that we care just as much about our people and our talent as they do in Britain, or anywhere else.

TeenTelevision: Do you want your wife to come watch you host?

Nick: The amazing thing about Mariah is that, as busy as she is -- she has a movie coming out, she's going to Cannes, she's finishing up her album -- she still finds time to support the things that I do and it always amazes me. It's crazy. I'll be DJing in a nightclub, and she'll come in and shut the whole place down. So, I'm sure that she'll definitely stop by. You might not see her on camera, but trust that she'll be backstage in the dressing room, hanging out or something like that. That's just the type of person that she is. Nothing's too big and nothing's too small for us to share together.

TeenTelevision: How has the first year of marriage been?

Nick: It's amazing! It's one of those things where it's continuing to grow. As cliché and corny as that may sound, every day we find something else new to love about each other.

TeenTelevision: Have you celebrated your anniversary this year?

Nick: Yes. We told everybody that we were going to get married again, every single year, and we're going to do that. We had actually planned on getting married in Vegas, and we were going to get Elvis or somebody to marry us, or do the whole drive-thru thing. But then, we started inviting everybody and it got really big because all these people wanted to come, and we can't invite people to something tacky. Mariah doesn't do anything tacky. She said, "Okay, we're still going to get married, but we're going to get married at a secret location, the next day." So, we had this huge party and celebration dinner, but there was actually no ceremony because the ceremony was a secret.

TeenTelevision: Any luck yet with the baby plans?

Nick: I don't believe in luck. It's all about skill. Because this year is so hectic for the both of us, after this year calms down, that's probably when we'll focus more on that.

Join Nick on the new season of "America's Got Talent" on NBC June 23rd.
