Avril Lavigne has filed for divorce, bidding to end her three-year marriage to pop punk Deryck Whibley.
The singer has cited "irreconcilable differences" for the reason behind her split.
In the documents, Lavigne reveals the couple separated on 4 September.
Confirming the split on her MySpace.com blog, the Complicated singer wrote, "I admire Deryck and have a great amount of respect for him. He is the most amazing person I know and I love him with all my heart. Deryck and I are separating and moving forward on a positive note."
