Khia
Biography
Born Khia Chambers, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Although it would be understandable to categorize the music of Khia as hip-hop (especially after hearing her graphic 2002 hit, "My Neck, My Back (Lick It)"), this southern vocalist also has roots in R&B and gospel, in addition to studying tap dancing early on. Raised in Tampa, Florida, Khia (pronounced Ki-ya) performed at school talent shows and parades as a youngster, as she decided early on that she wanted to pursue a career as a musical performer. By later bartending at a Tampa Bay hot spot, Khia became acquainted with most of the area's top DJs and producers, which resulted in a recording contract with the Artemis label in the new millennium. Khia's debut, Thug Misses, was released in 2002. "My Neck, My Back (Lick It)" gained further exposure on the soundtrack for the US television show, Dark Angel.
