Singled out for Rolling Stone's "10 Artists To Watch/The Next Wave" list, Aware/Columbia Records artist John Mayer is currently enjoying the success of his latest album, Room For Squares. Even without significant national airplay, the album has already sold 200,000 copies. Mayer is quickly generating a buzz on the airwaves, however. His video for "No Such Thing" debuted on VH1's exclusive "Inside Track" rotation on March 11, 2002, and his album is working its way up the Billboard Top 200 album chart. Room For Squares has been the #1 record on the Billboard Heatseekers New Artist chart for two weeks running, while the album has hit the #1 slot on the Alternative New Artist chart. "No Such Thing," the first single from Room For Squares, has been both the "Hot Shot Debut" and "Greatest Gainer" on the Top 40 Adult Monitor and was the #1 Most Added record at Hot AC and Modern AC Radio for two weeks in a row. The single has been impacting multiple radio formats across the country--it's been a #1 most played record in Chicago, Boston, Portland, Baltimore and Memphis and received airplay at AAA, Hot/Modern Adult Contemporary, Modern Rock and Top 40 stations nationwide. "No Such Thing" is currently reaching more than 10 million listeners a week, and the song was featured on ABC's popular Alias program in March. Since the 1999 release of Inside Wants Out--a DIY homemade effort which John sold at his shows and distributed himself--and his major label debut Room For Squares in September 2001, Mayer has been crisscrossing the U.S., building an ever-widening fan base. He's appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and has scheduled appearances on The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn and Last Call with Carson Daly. (courtesy of Columbia Records and mtv.com)
