Jimmy Eat World is a band that shouldn't need an introduction. If you've ever listened to the radio or watched a popular music television station, then you've almost certainly been privy to at least one of their many singles. Despite the band's discernible popularity globe-wide, lead singer/guitarist Jim Adkins has kept a refreshingly humble attitude towards his success in the mainstream. Since getting their start in 1993, Jimmy Eat World have evolved from a modest underground indie band, into a stadium rock band who can now be considered as major players in popular music. Read on with us as we discuss Jimmy Eat World's new album "Chase This Light", their upcoming tour with Paramore, and what it feels like to fulfill the fantasy of becoming a rock star.
TeenMusic: Can you tell us a little about how you chose the name "Jimmy Eat World"?
Jim: Our other guitar player has a big family and some of his little brothers were fighting one day. Jim, who at the time was a heavier-set kid, was beating up on his little brother Ed. As retaliation, Ed drew this picture of Jim with this globe in his mouth, saying he was so fat he could eat the world and wrote the caption "Jimmy Eat World". He put it on his door for Jim to see, and that's where our band's name comes from.
