Rapper Nas has ditched the controversial title of his new album just weeks before its release.

The I Can hitmaker had planned to name his new release N***er, incurring the wrath of many fellow hip-hop heavyweights and concerning bosses at his label Def Jam.

But insiders insist Nas has dumped the provocative title six weeks before the album hits stores on July 1st.

Nas hinted the title could change during an Mtv News article last week. He said, "Everybody is trying to stop the title. Record stores are gonna have a problem in this day and time selling a record with that title. Who knows what's gonna turn out and be on that title?"

The album will now be an eponymous release.
