N.e.r.d.'s 3rd Album Draws Raves from Around the Globe
Jun 23, 2008 - Jeff Maisey
REVIEWS of N.E.R.D.'s new album, "Seeing Sounds," are coming in from around the globe.
From Ian Cohen of Pitchforkmedia.com: "In an odd way, 'Seeing Sounds' is a liberating listen - clearly, N.E.R.D. are beholden to no one but themselves..."
Christian Hoard of Rolling Stone wrote, "Specked with ostentatiously weird grooves, 'Spaz' and the speedy, jazzy single 'Everyone Nose' are destined to go down as some of 2008's most interesting hip-hop cuts."
Priya Elan of Britain's The Times gave the album a rating of 4 stars out of 5 and noted: "Happily, their new album suggests a thrilling second act. ... This album is a superb reminder of why we fell in love with them in the first place."
While most critics have praised the CD, some have been less impressed.
"Album three reheats much of what's been before," wrote the BBC's Jack Bennett. "
'Seeing Sounds'is beautiful in places but would be more so if N.E.R.D. didn't make a song and dance out of everything inside their
head."
Bella Todd of Time Out London: "N.E.R.D.'s advent celebrated the apex of the age of the producer, but what this cries out for is a songwriter."
"Seeing Sounds" debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 album chart this week, selling 70,000 copies.
