'Barbershop' Success Prompts Sequel
Sep 23, 2002 - World Entertainment News Network
Rapper Ice Cube is so elated with the surprise success of his new movie "Barbershop," there's already talk of a sequel - and spin-off TV show.
The flick, which cost a mere $15 million to make, pulled in a respectable $21 million when it opened earlier this month, catapulting it to the top of the box office.
Now bosses at film studios MGM are so excited about the allure of the movie, which stars rapper Eve and "Save the Last Dance" actor Sean Patrick Thomas, they plan to cash in by allowing Cube to flex his scissors again.
MGM vice chairman Chris McGlurk says, "We're very hopeful about doing a sequel."
"This is one of those properties you can do a lot of things with. Maybe a TV show - maybe even a stage play."
