Britney Spears has dominated headlines this year - and now she has been named the celebrity with the most column inches.

The Womanizer hitmaker has turned her life around after a series of breakdowns and has won the support of the public - and the press - for her comeback.

The singer was the most written about celebrity for 11 weeks of the past year for events including the release of her new album, Circus, and her appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards, according to USA Today's Celebrity Heat Index.

In second, third and fourth places respectively are Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt.

They have all dominated the headlines in a year that saw Jolie give birth to twins and Aniston reveal her feelings towards Pitt's relationship with the Tomb Raider actress.

Collectively the trio topped the headlines for 14 weeks of the past year.

Jamie Lynn Spears and Tom Cruise also made the top ten of the list.
